Work Day at Polipoli Farms
Last Friday the 17th marked 132 years since the imprisonment of our Queen Liliʻuokalani and the illegal overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom. The PONO Legal team spent the day with beloved friends and community leaders Lehia and Brad of @polipolifarms. Our service day was nothing short of special - together, we cleaned up a newly-discovered historic rock wall and planted over two dozen mamaki, a Hawaiian medicinal plant that is popularly used in tea and other health treatments. Our team also got to learn about the Maoli ʻulu variety that once shaded Lahaina, and see the baby ʻulu trees growing in their greenhouse that will reforest the area. As if we weren’t blessed enough, we were graced with the presence of our kūpuna and board members who flew in from Oahu to be with us for the day! Such an awesome day for us to connect with each other and set our intentions for PONO Legal in this new year.
Mahalo e Lehia and Brad for hosting a day of community, history, mālama ʻāina, and aloha. Mahalo also for feeding our larger Maui community and in showing us a pono way forward!
